Worker claim process

What to expect during the claim process

Once you have reported your injury, you will be given a claim number and the name and telephone number of the adjudicator who will handle your claim. The adjudicator is the WCB staff person who will work with you on your claim and the person you should call if you have any questions.

If you have to pay for any medication or other expenses related to your injury, keep your original receipts and advise your adjudicator. The WCB may cover these expenses.

Here are the steps during the worker claim process.

Claim decision

Information will be gathered from you, your employer and your healthcare provider. This information is used to decide whether to accept or deny the claim. The length of time it takes to make a decision can depend on the complexity of the claim and the availability of information. We will contact you if more information is required.

Benefit calculation

Workers compensation is funded by employers to so that you receive the benefits you are entitled to when you experience a workplace injury or illness. Your workplace must also pay you for the full day you were hurt at work, not just up to the time of your injury.

If you claim benefits, such as wage loss benefits, healthcare treatment or prescription costs, the WCB will determine what is covered.
