Your claims costs are used to decide future WCB premiums.

On your Claim Transaction Statement, you can see which claims will be used to set your rate.

  • If you have less claims costs than the industry your business is classified in, your rate will likely be lower than the average for your industry classification.
  • If you have more claims costs than your industry’s average, your rate is likely to increase along with the cost of your premiums.

How Can I Reduce Claims Costs?

Claims costs are directly related to the amount of time an injured worker spends away from work after an injury or illness. You can reduce your claims costs by:

  • investing in prevention: a good safety and health program can help workers avoid an injury in the workplace altogether
  • designing a Return to Work program: Return to Work provides as much support as possible to help an injured worker Return to Work if an injury does occur.

These organizations can help you in your prevention and Return to Work efforts.

Industry-based safety programs (IBSPs) work closely with organizations to guide and support them in their safety and health efforts.

Current IBSPs include:

Construction

Manufacturing

Transportation

Service

Agriculture

Oil and Gas

Mining

If your industry is not currently associated with one of the above IBSPs, please contact SAFE Work Manitoba:
