Employers’ responsibilities for reporting claims

Section #: 22.70.30
Effective date: 2006-01-01

Policy purpose

As provided in section 18 of The Workers Compensation Act (the Act), whenever a worker suffers a work related injury giving rise to a claim for compensation, the employer must report the accident and resulting injury to the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba (WCB). The report must be made in writing within five business days from the date the employer first became aware of the injury.

This policy provides guidance to employers on when they should be reporting worker injuries to the WCB. It also outlines the potential consequences of failure to report.
