Report unsafe work

Looking out for hazards in your workplace means looking out for your co-workers and yourself. Keeping others safe from harm is something most of us do automatically. Reporting unsafe work and speaking up about safety prevents injuries and saves lives.

By taking steps to report unsafe work, you’re supporting a positive culture of safety and prevention at your workplace. Everyone is responsible for making workplaces safer, preventing injuries and creating and maintaining a culture of safety.

Three simple steps to report unsafe conditions at your workplace

Step 1: Raise your concern with your supervisor. The supervisor should acknowledge and try to resolve your safety concerns.

Step 2: If you find it difficult to approach your supervisor or if your supervisor cannot resolve your concern, talk to someone from your workplace safety and health committee or your worker safety and health representative.

Under the Workplace Safety and Health Act and Regulation, you have the right to refuse dangerous work and the right to protection from reprisal. If you have exercised your right to refuse work and you are told to go home without pay, contact the Workplace Safety and Health Branch immediately.

Step 3: If the committee/representative did not resolve your concern, or if you feel your issue is urgent, contact Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health (WSH)
