  • The development, construction and/or operation of mining of metal ores by either underground or surface mining. Includes gold, copper, zinc, tungsten, nickel, chromate and tantalum, and gems including diamonds.
  • Incidental mining activities when carried on as part of an overall mining operation. These activities include:
    • Prospecting (by mine constructor/operator)
    • Line cutting
    • Diamond drilling
    • Blasting or setting off explosives
    • Shaft sinking to start or further develop a mine shaft
    • Drift/cross cutting (horizontal removal of rock/ore)
    • Crushing ore
    • Purification, reduction or smelting ore at the mine site
    • Removal of the overburden for strip or open pit mining
    • Raiseboring
  • The independent evaluation of prospective sites for:
    • Mineral exploration
    • Geological exploration
    • Geophysical exploration
    • Seismic exploration
    • Archeological exploration
    • Paleontological exploration

Prospecting is smaller-scale physical exploration of mineral and ore deposits.

  • Line cutting (clearing right of way for exploration/sample taking) is considered incidental to the main operation.
  • Mapping Services – where mapping services involve any outside field work.
