  • Medical services provided under a Regional Health Authority
  • Coverage for medical offices and clinics where treatment is provided by any of the following:
    • doctors,
    • nurses,
    • dentists (including orthodontists),
    • chiropractors,
    • occupational therapists,
    • optometrists,
    • physiotherapists,
    • psychologists and
    • podiatrists

    is optional and is found under 924-03 – Medical and personal services.

  • Provision of medical and personal care where overnight accommodations are provided.

    Includes facilities such as:

    • Hospitals
    • Medical nursing units
    • Nursing homes
  • Residential facilities that provide personal care only to their residents (room cleaning service, preparation of meals, activities, etc.) but no medical, surgical or nursing care are found under 702-03 – Specialized homes.
  • Private firms that provide medical service personnel to a hospital or home care to the elderly or infirm (e.g., supplying nurses to a hospital)
  • A person (not a business) that hires an individual, such as nurses-aides or other health care attendants, to provide care for patients in their own home (self-managed home care), are classified under rate code 706-03 – Domestic services.

    (Coverage is only mandatory if the worker is employed for 24 hours or more per week.)

  • Provision of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) or paramedic services.
  • The operation of an ambulance service that includes emergency medical treatment by a qualified EMT/paramedic.

Health care services

16(1) Provision of health care services by a physician, nurse, dentist, chiropractor, occupational therapist, optometrist, physiotherapist, podiatrist or psychologist.

(This category does not include

  1. those health care services provided in conjunction with a manufacturing or retail components; or
  2. those health care services provided
    1. by a regional health authority or a subsidiary health corporation under The Regional Health Authorities Act;
    2. by a firm that provides medical services at a hospital or home cares services to the elderly or infirm, or
    3. in a facility offering medical care and overnight accommodation.)
