  • Retail sales of a variety of goods at one location.

    Goods carried tend to include larger items. Examples include:

    • Department stores
    • Hardware stores/home improvement centres/lumber yards
    • Appliance and/or furniture stores, including “rent-to-own” outlets
    • Home entertainment and electronics stores
    • Flooring, carpet, lighting, drapery and other home furnishing stores
    • Plumbing fixture stores
    • Pool and spa stores

    Includes incidental activities, such as merchandising, inventory and delivery to customers. In some cases there may be servicing of the products sold.

  • Retail sales of cellular telephones, communication equipment, and cellular air-time packages.
  • Retail sale of a variety of goods under a Consumer Co-op legal entity. Primarily in rural areas Consumer Co-ops are involved in the sale of almost anything from groceries and dry goods to hardware, lumber or farm implements.
  • Co-ops that primarily retail or wholesale a particular type of good; or a particular family of goods; or are producer co-ops, are assigned to the classification code which best describes the specific goods they sell or produce.
