  • Individuals engaged on a casual as-needed basis by a municipal body to perform firefighting duties on a volunteer basis.

    Volunteer fire brigades are usually in rural areas where there is not enough public funding or need to employ full-time fire fighters.

    Premiums are calculated based on the number of individuals engaged on an annual basis multiplied by a flat “headcount” rate.

    (Emergency fire fighters are covered under Subsection 1(4) of the Workers’ Compensation Act.)
