Individuals engaged on a casual as needed basis by a municipal body to perform emergency ambulance-related duties on a volunteer basis. Volunteer ambulance workers are usually in rural areas where there is not enough public funding or need to employ fulltime ambulance workers. Premiums are calculated based on the number of individuals engaged on an annual basis multiplied by a flat “headcount” rate. (Emergency ambulance workers are covered under Subsection 1(4) of the Workers’ Compensation Act.)	Private ambulance services are found under 503-09 – Transportation NEC. Volunteer firefighters are found under 802-02 – Emergency firefighters. A municipal fire brigade operated with paid workers is found under 801-02 – Municipal operations.
