2023 Manitoba Safety and Health Index

2023 Score: +0.4%

+8.5%

Prevention: The increase in SAFE Work Certification, a standard that helps make workplaces safer, combined with a positive shift in perception of injury and illness prevention in the workplace, led to a positive score.

-12.2%

Compliance: Increased enforcement by Manitoba’s Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) branch in targeted industries resulted in more orders issued and increased risk. While this trend reflects negatively on the score, it shows that enforcement effectively targets areas of concern.

-0.2%

Workplace culture: A decrease in worker’s awareness of legislation, combined with a negative perception of workplace safety culture, led to a slightly negative outcome.

+5.6%

Injuries: A substantial decrease in injury rates, especially severe injuries, combined with improvement in the return to work metric, led to a positive score.
