Return to Work Information for Health Care Providers

The key to a return to work program’s success is a partnership among workers, unions/worker representatives, employers, healthcare providers and the WCB.

The healthcare professional’s role in the return to work process is to not only diagnose and treat the illness or injury but to advise and support the injured worker, communicate with the injured worker and the employer and work closely with other involved healthcare professionals.

The WCB values your partnership in providing injured workers with a safe and timely return to the most productive employment possible. Please refer to this pamphlet to find out more about how you, as a healthcare provider, can facilitate an injured worker's return to work.

Effective January 1, 2007, employers who have 25 or more full time or regular part time workers will be required to re-employ injured workers who have been in their employ for at least 12 continuous months prior to their injuries. If you would like more information about obligations to re-employ injured workers, review this brochure.
